Guy at a Broadway taproom told me his Denver retail landlord raised rent 40% mid-lease
Last month I grabbed a beer at a taproom on Broadway and got talking to the owner about his lease. He pulled out his phone and showed me the letter: his landlord wanted $34 a square foot starting month 18, up from $24, in a 5 year deal with no bump clause in writing. He said two other tenants in the same building on South Broadway got the same letter that month. I could not stop thinking about how many small operators sign these things without a real estoppel or a cap on increases spelled out. Has anyone here dealt with a mid-term rent hike like this, and did a lawyer actually get it walked back?
