The day I dropped a whole basket of onion rings into the fryer oil...
Last Sunday at my buddy's backyard cookout in Austin, I was in charge of the deep fry station. I had this huge basket loaded with battered rings and somehow slipped on a wet patch of concrete... went down hard and the whole thing flipped into the oil, splashing hot grease everywhere. My buddy's dog ran off barking and I had to fish out soggy rings with a spider skimmer while everyone laughed. Has anyone else had a dumb kitchen accident like this with a deep fryer?

Actually I gotta push back on the "dumb accident" part lol. Slipping on a wet patch is just bad luck, not really a dumb move on your end. Tipping a whole basket into the oil is definitely a classic deep fryer moment though, happens to the best of us.

I get what you're saying derek but I gotta disagree on one thing. Slipping on a wet patch might be bad luck but getting up and trying to save a basket full of onion rings by dumping them into the oil is where the dumb part comes in. I mean if you fall and the basket flips that's just physics, but you said you actually fished out soggy rings with a spider skimmer after that? That's the part where I'd just let them go and make a new batch. Sometimes you gotta know when to cut your losses and start over.
