Shoutout to my cousin in Tulsa who fried a whole stick of butter and swore it was the future
Two weeks ago she dropped a frozen block of butter in 375 degree peanut oil in her garage and it melted into a greasy puddle with a sad crust, which is exactly why I'll keep saying the air fryer crowd has the right idea about anything that isn't a potato.
What kind of peanut oil was she using, the cheap store brand or the good stuff? Because I tried something close to this back in 2019 with a turkey frier setup in my driveway and the oil temp dropped to about 250 the second that cold butter hit it. That is the part people miss. A frozen block of anything cools the oil way down, so you are not frying at 375 at all, you are basically poaching it in oil. Did she use a thermometer or just guess at the temp?
