Dropped a whole onion ring tower in my air fryer, now I'm ruined
Last Sunday I got cocky stacking like 4 layers of onion rings in my air fryer basket and they all toppled into one greasy mess. Scraped it up, hit them with a second dusting of cornstarch and flour, and threw them back in at 400 for 4 extra minutes. Honestly they came out crunchier than my usual single layer, so now I'm second guessing every batch I've ever made. Has anyone else had a happy accident like this or am I just insane?
I always figured single layer was the only way, like stacking was a rookie mistake I would never make. Then I got lazy one night and dumped a pile in there and they actually got crispier too, same as you. Something about the steam and the crowding must change how they cook, maybe it keeps them from drying out before they brown. Now I do two layers on purpose and just shake them halfway through. That greasy pile was not a mess, it was a discovery. My old batches feel kind of weak looking back.
