Bought a dedicated fish fryer and it was a total waste
Spent $80 on one of those electric deep fryers specifically for fish and the batter just slid right off into the oil. Ended up using my cast iron pot anyway like I always did. Anyone else regret a specialized fryer purchase?

Maybe the fish just didn't want to commit to a dedicated appliance. Cast iron's probably just built different.

That's a good point about cast iron being built different, but I've actually tried both ways. The dedicated cast iron fish griddle is a game changer for crispy skin. Regular cast iron skillets just don't get hot enough across the whole surface, so you end up with uneven cooking and stuck skin. The fish shaped one has a slight curve that lets the heat travel up the sides better. Plus it keeps the oils from pooling, which helps with that restaurant style finish. If you've got the space for one more pan, it's worth the investment.
