Unpopular opinion: writing down passwords on paper at home beats most apps for me
I keep my home logins in a small notebook in a locked drawer in Denver. Got locked out of my email twice in 2023 when a phone update wiped my password manager and I had no backup code saved. A thief would need to break in and find the drawer, while a weak master password hands over everything from anywhere. Anyone else split their stuff this way, or am I just behind?
I used to roll my eyes at paper backups and thought apps were the only safe way. Then my phone died last summer and the replacement wouldn't restore my manager, and I spent four hours on hold with support just to get into my bank. Now I keep a cheap notebook in a fire box with the important stuff written in a way only I can read. The part that changed my mind was realizing a master password is one key to everything, while a drawer at home needs someone to actually show up.
