Switched from 1Password to a plain text file with GPG, zero regrets so far

After that LastPass breach in 2022 I got paranoid and tried 1Password for a year. But I hated paying $36 a year and the autofill kept fighting with my browser. So I moved everything to a GPG-encrypted plain text file with a master password. It took a weekend to convert my 200+ logins and I backup the file to a USB stick in my fire safe. Has anyone else gone back to basic tools like this, or am I just being stubborn about complexity?

The whole "basic tools" thing hits different once you get older. Like, I see it with everyone I know, not just passwords. My buddy spent a month building a smart home setup with apps for every light switch, then his wifi went down and he couldn't turn on the bathroom light. He ripped it all out and went back to a normal switch that just works. Same with my sister's meal planning app that had 400 recipes, but she keeps a scrap of paper with like 5 things she actually cooks on the fridge. There's something about tools that just sit there and do their job without asking for updates or syncing or subscriptions. The GPG file is basically the same thing, it's boring and that's the whole point lol.
