Spent 4 hours tracking down a keylogger that turned out to be my own macro software

Spent a whole afternoon running scans and checking processes, pulling my hair out over a supposed keylogger. Finally figured out it was just my old Razer keyboard macro software logging keystrokes for a game profile I forgot about. Anyone else ever waste a ton of time chasing a false positive from your own gear?

Happened to me with an old Logitech mouse driver @murray.spencer. Thought someone had remote access to my PC, turned out the software was just sending usage data for the "optimization" feature. Felt like such a dummy after I read the fine print in the EULA. Wasted a good three hours diagnosing it.

Got a buddy who spent two days convinced he had a banking trojan on his gaming rig. Was wiping drives and reinstalling Windows before he realized it was just the Amcrest security camera software he used to check his front door while at work. The program was sending encrypted screenshots to his phone app every time motion was detected. He felt like a total clown after that one, especially since he'd already ordered a new SSD out of paranoia.
