My home network went from getting hit every day to maybe once a month

About six months ago I set up a Pi-hole on a Raspberry Pi to block ads and trackers. I was shocked to see it was blocking over 10,000 requests a day, a lot from sketchy domains. After adding a blocklist for known malware sources, those attempts dropped off a cliff. Has anyone else seen a big drop in junk traffic after doing something similar?

Pi-hole really is the unsung hero of home network security, right?

Oh man, absolutely. I had the exact same shock when I first fired up Pi-hole. My blocklist caught about 8,000 requests in the first day alone, mostly from devices I didn't even know were phoning home. After I added a few curated malware lists from Firebog, the noise dropped to almost nothing. It's wild how much junk your gear sends out without you knowing.

That Wired article @walker.max mentioned nailed it.
