My friend told me to stop using the same password for everything, and I wish I had listened sooner.

He warned me about this for years, but I kept using a simple variation of one password for my email, bank, and a few forums. Last month, a forum I signed up for in 2018 got hacked, and my login details were leaked. Hackers used those same details to get into my main email account because I had reused the password. It took me over a week to lock everything down and get control back. Now I use a password manager with a different, long password for every single site. Has anyone else had a close call that finally made you change a bad habit?

A security expert on a podcast once said password reuse is the single biggest risk for most people online. They explained that it only takes one old, forgotten site getting breached to compromise your whole digital life. Your story is exactly what they were talking about, and it's a powerful lesson. Switching to a password manager is the smartest move you can make. It seems like a hassle at first, but the peace of mind is worth it. I'm glad you managed to get everything locked down again.

Forget password managers and just write them down on paper.

Seriously, how do you even keep track of paper passwords for all your accounts? You'd need a whole notebook just for logins. What happens if you lose that paper or someone finds it? A manager creates crazy strong passwords you'd never remember and fills them in for you. It's way less work than trying to update a handwritten list every time a site makes you change it.
