Hot take: I paid $80 for a "router security scan" app from a guy on a podcast and it just checked if my WiFi was on
Back in 2019 I heard a guy on a tech podcast in Chicago pushing an app that would "lock down your home network." It cost $80 a year and did nothing but ping my router and tell me my WiFi was on. A free scan from my router's own admin page showed more than that. Has anyone found a home network check that actually does something worth paying for?
Paid $80 and got told your WiFi was on. That's on you for trusting a podcast ad. The guy probably made bank off that. Free router admin page does more, yeah, but most folks never log into it. They don't know the IP, don't know the password, don't know what WPA2 even means. So a dumb app that at least gets them to look at their network is not nothing. You paid for a reminder to care. Worth $80? No. Worth something? Sure.
