Had to choose between a free VPN and paying for one last month...
My old VPN subscription ran out and I was stuck. I could either use one of those free ones that pop up everywhere, or pay for a known good service. I went with the free one to save some cash... big mistake. Within a week, my browsing felt slower than dial-up and I started getting weird ads for things I'd only searched for while it was on. It felt like being watched. I uninstalled it fast and just paid for the good one. The speed is back and my mind is at ease. Has anyone else tried a free VPN and had it go wrong? What did you switch to?

Free VPNs are basically just spyware with a fancy name, like @wyatt_green31 said. You pay for them with your data instead of cash, which is a terrible deal. Glad you got out before anything worse happened.

My friend's phone got flooded with weird ads after using a free VPN for a month. They're definitely selling your info to make up for not charging you. It's just not worth the risk.

Yeah, saw a tech article that basically called free VPNs data farms. They sell your browsing history to make money, so the ads make total sense. Good call switching back to a paid one.
