Clicked a link in an email from 'my bank' without thinking for 8 years

So last Tuesday I get an email saying my checking account was flagged for unusual activity. Looked perfect, same logo, same layout, even had my name on it. I clicked the link without a second thought, typed in my username and password, and only realized after I closed the browser that the domain was 'mybank-secure-login.xyz' or something wild. My stomach dropped. I work with my hands all day pressure washing driveways, I never thought I'd be the guy who falls for a phishing scam. Called the bank right away and luckily nothing happened since I caught it in 5 minutes, but has anyone else had that moment where you realize you've been doing something dangerous for years without knowing?

Used to think I was too smart for phishing. Not anymore I guess.

Oh you fell for one of those too? What was it, a fake FedEx delivery text or someone pretending to be your boss? I swear they get craftier every year, it's honestly impressive how good some of these scams look now. Don't beat yourself up too much. I know a guy who runs a small IT company and he almost clicked on a phishing link that looked exactly like a Microsoft security alert. If someone who does this stuff for a living can slip up, any of us can. The real wake up call is when you realize it's not about being smart or not. It's about being tired, distracted, or just having a bad day. That's when they get you. What was the red flag you missed? I'm always curious what finally gives them away.

Call me crazy but I actually think there's something to be said for falling for a scam at least once, @graygonzalez. It's like getting the vaccine instead of just hearing about the disease. You learn more from one mistake than from ten warnings. I almost fell for a fake Amazon password reset last year and now I spot those things from a mile away. The paranoia after you get burned is actually useful, it keeps you sharp. So maybe wearing that scare like a badge of honor isn't the worst take. Would you say you're more suspicious of everything now or just the same old level of cautious?
