Back in 2018, my home network in Austin got hit by a crypto miner.

I noticed my computer was running slow and my power bill spiked. After checking my router logs, I saw weird traffic going to a server in Russia. I had to factory reset the router, change every password, and set up a Pi-hole to block those calls. Has anyone else had to clean up a crypto miner from their home setup?

Honestly, Jade_Singh might be onto something there.

Austin has some rough neighborhoods but a crypto miner seems like a stretch for a home network. Are you sure it wasn't just some weird adware or a coin miner hiding in a browser tab? Those can slow things down without needing a full router reset. What kind of router were you even using back then?
