Unpopular opinion - I actually prefer the old manual crane controls over the new digital ones
Been running a Liebherr LTM 1050 for about 6 years now with the digital joysticks. Last month I had to cover for a guy on an older 1030 with the old manual levers and honestly I felt way more in control. The digital stuff has all those safety overrides and dead zones that sometimes fight you when you're trying to feather a load in tight. I know everyone's hyped about the new tech but after that shift I'm thinking about asking my boss to switch me back. Any other old school operators feel this way or am I just being a dinosaur?

Damn right, that old manual feel just gave you way more finesse with the load.

Is it just me or is this the same thing happening everywhere though? I noticed it with my uncle's car, the new ones have so many computer nannies that you can't really feel the road anymore. Same with my friend's new coffee maker at his shop, it's all touchscreens and presets but you can't tweak the brew like you could with the old knobs. Seems like everything's getting "smarter" but dumber at the same time, if that makes sense. The old crane controls probably gave you that direct feedback where you could tell exactly what the machine was doing without the computer second-guessing you. I bet half the time those safety overrides are designed by some engineer who's never actually run a crane in a tight spot.
