That mini crane at the scrapyard in Jersey made me question everything
Stopped by a scrap yard in Newark last week to eyeball some steel and they had this beat-up 2-ton mini crane running a magnet. Watching that operator swing loads over a pile of crushed cars with zero fancy tech, just cable tension and feel, made me realize how much I lean on my load cells. Anyone else ever watch a guy running old gear and wonder if we're overcomplicating the job?

Ever run a rig where the readout died halfway through the job... and you had to finish on pure muscle memory? That's the thing about old gear, it forces you to build the feel, but I wouldn't trade my load cells for it. The sensors catch the small shifts your hands can't, especially in wind or on soft ground. But watching that guy work the magnet makes me think the skill is still the base, the tech just helps you trust it faster. Keep a spare cable and a sharp eye on the drum wrap, that's the real secret on those old units.
