Showerthought: I tried two different ways to check my crane's swing brake last week
For years I just listened for the click and felt for resistance. Last Tuesday I actually timed a full rotation stop with a phone app after a guy on site in Tacoma said to. The old way said it was fine, but the timer showed a full second of drift past the mark. That extra second could mean missing a pick by a foot over distance. Anyone else measure their swing stop time or just go by feel?

Ever notice how the simple checks can trick you? My old truck had a steering wobble I swore was just the road, until my buddy made me watch the wheel while he shook the linkage. My eyes lied for months. Makes you wonder what else we're missing by just going with the gut feel.

What else do you think our gut gets wrong?

Wait, your truck had a wobble for months and you just drove it like that? Honestly that's kind of wild. Tbh my gut would have told me to get it checked after like two days, that sounds scary. Ngl I'd be too worried about the wheel just falling off. It's crazy how we can ignore something so big when it just feels normal after a while.
