Shoutout to the old guy who told me to put a tennis ball on my jib line

I was moving some steel beams in a tight spot in Cleveland last month, and this retired operator watching said to tie a cut tennis ball to the line to stop it swinging. I thought it was nuts, but tried it with a ball from my garage and it worked like a charm, saved me a ton of time. Anyone else use a weird trick like that?

Old guys know all the weird tricks. My foreman had me use a bag of sand once to stop a cable from spinning. Looked stupid, worked perfect. Felt like an idiot until it saved the whole job.

Read that trick in a forum once, @kai_butler83.

Huh, I gotta disagree a bit. That bag of sand trick is solid, no doubt. But calling it a "weird trick" feels like giving the old guys too much credit - it's just common sense with a heavy object, you know?
