Picked a used 60 ton over a new 40 ton and I'm still second guessing it
Back in March I had $190k to spend and two trucks in front of me: a 2011 60 ton with 9,000 hours on it, or a brand new 40 ton for about the same money. I went with the 60 ton because most of my work is precast panels and I didn't want to turn down lifts, but the maintenance has been steady, about $1,400 in the first four months on a boom wear pad and a couple of sensors. The new truck would've had warranty and better fuel numbers, but I would've had to pass on two jobs already. My wife says I bought a project, my operator buddy says I bought capacity, and I honestly don't know which one of them is right. Any of you gone big and old over small and new, and did it work out or bite you?
