Old timer's load chart tip saved my ass on a school job
Set up a 50 ton in a tight lot near Austin last Tuesday and kept second guessing the radius, then a retired operator who was watching told me to read the chart with the boom angle, not the distance from the hook. He said I was overthinking the tape measure when the indicator already had the answer. Anyone else get told to trust the charts over your gut and have it work out better?

Different trades got the same kinda lesson. I remember helping my buddy wire up a shed and he kept measuring the same run three times cause his laser level kept blinking. Finally his old man comes over and says just use the string line and stop trusting the battery. He was right, sometimes the simple answer is the one staring at you. That retired guy probably saved you hours of headache and maybe a wrecked lift. Charts dont lie even when your brain wants to argue with them. Glad it worked out, nothing worse than being stuck second guessing on a tight spot.
