I always thought a two-block warning was just a backup, but a close call changed my mind

I was running a 150-ton crawler on a site in Reno, lifting a concrete panel. My usual method was to watch the load and listen for the alarm, but last month the wind picked up fast. The alarm went off, but I was already at the limit because I wasn't tracking the angle on the indicator. The difference was actively watching that gauge versus just waiting for the sound. Now I check the angle every single lift. Anyone have a good method for keeping an eye on it without losing focus on the load?

Wait, you were lifting a 150-ton panel in Reno wind?

That wind can change direction so fast out there. Makes you wonder about the safety margins they had to work with.

My cousin's a crane operator and his stories about wind gusts are wild.
