Why does nobody talk about how difficult it is to match a root shadow on coarse hair?

I had three clients last month with coarse texture who all wanted that seamless root melt, and every single one turned brassy at the roots within a week, so am I missing a step or is it just the hair type?

...so my friend who's been doing hair for like 15 years told me she had this exact nightmare with a client who had super coarse, almost wiry grey hair. She tried everything, different tints, lower volumes of developer, even a special pre-toner, and the roots still pulled warm. She ended up having to do a quick gloss at the two week mark just to knock the brass back down, and the client wasn't even mad because she knew it was the hair texture fighting her. So yeah, I think it's definitely the coarse texture being stubborn, not you missing a step.

My client Deb had this exact problem, wiry grey roots that pulled orange no matter what I did. I finally started using a demi-permanent with a bit of blue-violet mixed in, applied only to the regrowth for the last 10 minutes of processing time. It knocked the warmth down way better than any permanent tint I tried, and I had to go lower on the developer too, like a 10 volume instead of 20. The gloss at two weeks is a solid backup plan too, but that demi trick really changed the game for me on coarse hair.
