Watching a coworker try to section hair without clips last Wednesday drove me nuts

I was at a salon in Phoenix helping out a friend, and this girl kept trying to hold sections with just her fingers. She was dropping hair everywhere, got frustrated, and had to redo two foils. I grabbed her a box of duckbill clips and showed her how to pin each section tight. Has anyone else seen people skip basic tools like that?

And the thing is, clips are cheap... even a pack of 10 would've saved her so much time and frustration, especially with foils where you really can't afford to drop a section.

Makes total sense. Its one of those small things that can make or break a whole session. A few bucks for clips is nothing compared to the headache of losing your place with foils.

Last time I tried foiling without clips, I ended up with more foil wrapped around my own head than on the client. Looked like a tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist mid-haircut.
