Tried a new way to mix a semi-permanent blue and it turned out muddy green

I was aiming for a deep ocean shade on a client, but my usual 1:1 ratio with a clear base made it look swampy. Has anyone else had a color shift like this with a specific brand's formula?

Honestly used to think the clear base was always safe for diluting without a color shift. Tbh that changed after a similar swampy green disaster with a purple that went straight to gray. Ngl it seems like some semi-permanent formulas just have weird undertones that take over. The brand I used had a strong green base hiding in the blue that only showed up when mixed.

Ugh, test it on a paper towel first next time.

I mixed a custom teal once with two different brands mixed together and that light green base in one of them ate the whole batch. Turned straight into puke color within minutes. The plastic mixing cup itself matters too. Some cheap cups have a chemical coating that reacts with certain dyes.
