That time a client's hair turned green after a color correction in my Tampa salon

I was mixing a toner to fix brassy highlights last Tuesday when the client's wet hair suddenly showed a minty tint, so I immediately applied a clarifying shampoo for 10 minutes and then a demi-permanent color to neutralize it, which actually saved the appointment. Has anyone else had a toner react weirdly with certain water minerals?

Tampa water is notoriously hard and full of minerals. I've seen it pull weird colors even with a perfect formula. That clarifying shampoo save was a smart move.

My old apartment in St. Pete had the same water, but a good water softener completely fixed the color issues for me. The minerals are there, but I've found the real problem is often the pH swing from the treatment plant. What's your water source like at home?

Yeah, that "hard water" thing is real. I keep a chelating treatment on hand now for exactly that kind of surprise.
