That time a client told me my highlights looked 'striped'

Had a regular last month who finally worked up the nerve to tell me my foils were too thick. She said it looked like I was painting stripes on a zebra. Took me a minute to get over my ego, but she was right. Now I do thinner sections and the blend is way more natural. Anybody else had to totally adjust their sectioning after some blunt feedback?

That whole zebra comparison stings at first but it's exactly the kind of real talk you need to hear. Kinda reminds me how in landscaping people will dance around telling me my lines aren't straight until one brave soul just blurts it out. Takes a minute to swallow your pride but that blunt feedback usually fixes things faster than anything else.

Four years ago I woulda been the guy arguing that feedback needs a soft touch and sugar coating. But then my old crew lead straight up told me my whole approach to stacking pallets was basically just making a mess with extra steps. Stung like hell for a couple days but he was completely right and I fixed my method in like a week. That zebra analogy hits the same way. Sometimes you need someone to just say "this looks stupid" instead of dancing around it for months.
