Shoutout to the client who taught me how to actually read a curl pattern

This woman in her 60s sat in my chair last week, pointed at her own 3B curls and said 'you're treating them like waves, not springs,' and now I can't unsee it on any head of hair.

Wait, 'treat it like a Slinky, not a spring roll'? That is such a perfect way to put it, I can't. Also, @reesemoore, your grandma knew what was up, man.

My grandma used to say the same thing about her perm in the 80s. She'd yell at the stylist to "treat it like a Slinky, not a spring roll.

Oh boy, the Slinky comparison is spot on. When curls are tight like that you've got to work with the spring action or they'll just bounce right back to where they started. A good technique is to stretch them slightly while drying to control the volume.
