My station's new $400 floor mat felt like a splurge until my back stopped hurting
I was getting these awful aches after every shift, and my old boss told me it was just part of the job. I finally got the thick anti-fatigue kind for my station, and the difference after a week was wild. What's the best upgrade you've made for your own comfort behind the chair?

My old kitchen had the worst tile floor that left my knees shot after a dinner rush. I finally bought a $60 gel mat for my prep station, and it was a total game changer. It's crazy how we're told to just deal with pain as a normal part of work. That small investment in comfort makes the whole job feel more sustainable.

Totally get why you'd grab a mat for relief, but calling it a game changer might oversell it. Those gel mats help a ton at a single spot, but you're still wrecking your knees walking across that hard tile all shift. It treats a symptom, not the real problem of a bad floor. Real change would be owners putting in proper flooring so the whole space is kinder to your body.

My old boss said the same thing about mats being a band-aid. Then I stood on one for a full shift and my back didn't ache for the first time in years.
