My mentor told me to stop using razor combs on curly hair but I kept at it until a client's frizz nightmare finally convinced me
After she sat in my chair with her 3C curls looking like a lion's mane from my over-texturizing, I tossed that razor comb in the trash and never looked back - anyone else have a product they swore by until a disaster proved them wrong?

I remember the first time I used a razor comb on loose curls and ended up with this mess that looked like a bird's nest had exploded. This one client of mine had fine 3A curls and I thought the razor would give her volume. Instead it sliced through too many strands and left these wispy flyaways all over her crown. She cried in my chair and I felt like a complete amateur. That was the moment I realized razors are only for certain straight or wavy textures and even then you gotta be super careful.

Damn, I was literally just thinking about this yesterday while cleaning out my garage and found my old razor comb buried in a box of junk. I'm a pest control person by day but I've been doing hair on the side for years and I swear that damn tool is cursed for curly hair. What nobody talks about is how razors actually create micro-tears in the hair shaft that show up weeks later as split ends and breakage, not just frizz. I had a client with gorgeous 4A curls and after using a razor comb her hair started snapping off at different lengths a month later when she came back for a trim. That's the hidden damage that creeps up on you.
