I finally figured out why my toner kept turning purple on level 8 hair

Turns out I was leaving it on 3 minutes too long because the swatch book said 15 but my specific brand of violet based toner actually needs 12 max, has anyone else had to adjust timing for specific lines or am I the only one who ruined a whole highlight job learning this?

laura's right about strand testing but 12 minutes still sounds long I'd try 10 max.

Hate when that happens! I've been there too with dye going muddy, it's SO frustrating. Definitely agree on testing first, saved my hair more than once.

I had the same problem with a different brand, dropped the time from 10 to 7 minutes and it stopped going muddy. Just test a strand first now before doing the whole head.
