Hot take: I used to hate using a razor on curly hair until a client proved me wrong

A client came in last Tuesday with tight 4C curls and asked for a razor cut, so I finally tried it on her texture. The way it softened her ends and removed bulk without losing curl shape totally changed my approach. Has anyone else seen good results with razors on curly textures?

Hold up but razor cutting 4C hair is asking for trouble down the line. I did that on a client last year and her ends started splitting within two weeks because razors shred the cuticle on tight coils way more than scissors do. You might get a soft look at first but the long term damage is brutal. Have you noticed how the hair behaves after two months? Because mine looked great for about a month and then I had to trim off way more than I would have with a clean scissor cut.

Gotta push back on @margaret_taylor42 a bit here. I've been razor cutting 4C hair for like three years now and the trick is blade sharpness and using a light hand. I had a client with super dense coils where scissors just made it look like a brick, but a fresh blade feathering out the ends gave her this airy shape that held curl definition for six months without split ends. Have you tried pairing razor cuts with protein treatments to keep the cuticle smooth?
