Had a client in a wheelchair for the first time at my station in Tacoma

She came in for a cut and color, and I realized my whole station setup was wrong for her. The chair didn't fit under the sink bowl, and my mirror was too high for her to see. I had to get creative with a rolling cart and a hand mirror, but it worked. How do you guys set up your space for clients with different mobility needs?

Did you ask her what would have made it easier? Sometimes the best ideas come straight from the person dealing with the problem every day.

Oh man, why is the most obvious thing always the last thing I think of? I was so busy trying to come up with a clever fix myself that asking her first never even crossed my mind. I guess I wanted to be the hero with the solution. Next time I'll try starting with the simple question instead of making it harder for both of us.

Honestly, not always. Some people are so deep in the weeds they can't see the bigger picture, and asking them first can just waste time.
