Can we talk about how nobody preps hair before a color correction?

Did a level 3 to level 7 lift on Saturday in Sacramento and the cuticle was so wrecked from her box dye that the mids grabbed green; everyone says just throw more lightener at it, but I spent 40 minutes on a bond builder first and it saved the whole head. What's your go to move when the hair is already fried before you even start?
