Unpopular take on that VidCon panel last year

I was at VidCon in Anaheim back in June 2024 and everyone was raving about that 'authenticity' talk from the big YouTubers. But honestly I think the whole thing was just them bragging about their sponsored trips. It actually made me stop caring about what the top creators say and focus more on small channels under 5k subs. Has anyone else felt like those big panels are more about ego than actual advice?

Man tell me about it. I sat through one of those panels last year and it was basically just a circle jerk about who got the best free trip to some resort.

Yeah those big panels are more about vibes than actual advice half the time. Everyone's patting themselves on the back for being 'real' while their thumbnail is a cry face. It's kind of a joke when you think about it. Small channels under 5k subs are way more raw and less worried about burning bridges with sponsors. I'd take a 500 sub creator's honest screw-up story over a millionaire's 'authenticity' talk any day. Maybe that's just me being cynical though.

Hear it all the time in other parts of life too, not just online. The guy who brags about being down to earth while he drives a brand new truck, or the big company that runs ads about how much they care about their customers. It's the same thing, you just learn to look past the talk and see what they actually do.
