That time I laughed at a buddy for using a cheap mic stand, turns out he was right

About 5 years ago my friend Jake spent $40 on a basic boom arm from Amazon for his podcast setup and I told him he was wasting money on junk that would break in 3 months. Fast forward to last week when my $200 K&M stand finally gave out after I kept knocking it over with my chair, but his cheap one is still going strong. Has anyone else had a budget piece of gear outlast the expensive version you bought?

Yeah but @joelwells I don't know if it's that deep either way honestly. A stand is a stand until you knock it over, then the cheap one might be fine and the pricey one might finally crack. Your mileage may vary on any of this gear stuff, people get way too hung up on brand names.

Ngl, I feel like people get way too worked up about gear prices. It's not that deep, it's a mic stand. You knocked yours over with a chair, that's not really the stand's fault. The cheap one probably just sits in one spot and never gets touched, so of course it's still fine. People act like spending more money means you're somehow smarter or more serious about your setup, but half the time it just means you paid for a name brand.

@casey16 nailed it, my buddy's $40 stand outlived my dumbass knocking over a $200 one.
