Showerthought: The whole vibe of a 'setup tour' video changed in just a few years.

I was watching some old videos from 2017 the other day, and the difference is wild. Back then, a creator's desk setup was just a camera pointed at a computer, maybe a funko pop or two, and a cheap mic. The whole point was to show you the gear. Now, it's a whole production. I saw a video last week where the creator had custom-built a desk with built-in LED strips, three different cameras for angles, and a whole segment on their 'color theory' for the room's paint. It went from a 5-minute gear list to a 20-minute lifestyle piece. I think it changed because the audience started to care more about the person behind the camera, not just the tools. The pressure to have a perfect, aesthetic background is huge now. Has anyone else noticed this shift, or is it just the big channels I'm watching?

Honestly I feel like the "pressure to have a perfect background" thing is way overblown. Most of the creators I watch still just show their actual desk, cables and all. I think a lot of those super produced tours are just for people who are really into interior design as a hobby. For everyone else, a good mic and a clean space is still totally fine. The fancy stuff is just one corner of the internet getting louder.

Nah, I gotta disagree. That pressure is real, especially for new creators. You see those perfect setups everywhere and it makes your normal desk feel like crap. It's not just a loud corner, it's the standard now.
