My collab with a bigger creator blew up in my face last week

I finally got a shoutout from a guy with 200k subscribers on YouTube. Thought it would be my big break. But his fans came in and just trashed my video style for being too low energy lol. I got like 40 comments saying I was boring and 2 actual new subscribers. I ended up deleting the collab video and going back to my own weird style. Has anyone else had a collab totally backfire like that?

Oh man, this exact same thing happened to me last year with a beauty guru who had like 150k subs. She did a makeup tutorial with me and her fans ripped into my voice saying I sounded like a robot lol. I got maybe 3 real new people out of it and a ton of nasty comments about my lighting setup. I actually kept the video up for a week before I had to take it down because I was getting so embarrassed. It really threw me off my game for like a month. Your own weird style is way better than trying to please someone else's crowd, trust me.

Yeah, that sounds rough. I think people forget the person with the smaller channel is actually putting themselves out there way more than the big one is. Hope you got back to making stuff you actually liked after that.
