Unpopular opinion: The move to shorter curtains is a plot to cut down on sunshine
I put up new drapes that stop above the floor and my whole space feels brighter. Everyone says full length is right, but who made that rule? I think it's a sneaky way to keep us from getting enough natural light. Maybe they want us buying more lamps or something. What's your view on this idea?

Honestly, when you said it might be a plot to sell more lamps, I almost laughed. Tbh, shorter curtains just make sense for cleaning. Like, full length ones get dirty from the floor, so you have to wash them more. That costs more in water and soap, not lamps. Ngl, I switched to shorter ones last year and my room is way brighter now. Maybe the rule about full length curtains was just made by people who sell curtain fabric.

My last pair of full length curtains basically became a dog hair mop. I had to wash them every other week. Robin594 has a point about the clean look, but for me it was about not having to deal with that mess anymore. The shorter ones I have now let in way more light and just brush the window sill. Maybe the real plot was by vacuum cleaner companies to make us buy more attachments.

Seriously, I read that mid-century modern design always used shorter curtains on purpose. It was about a clean, tailored look, not some dark scheme. The full-length thing is just a different style trend.
