Serious question, did that whole "Florida cold snap" bird drop actually happen or did we all just believe a map?
Back in January 2010 I was working at a little wildlife rehab place outside Gainesville and we got slammed with calls about stunned iguanas falling out of trees, which was real and gross and definitely happened. But then everyone started sharing these maps showing birds raining down all over the state, and nobody in our network of maybe 40 rehabbers across three counties ever saw one single bird fall. I spent two weeks calling around and the only "proof" anyone could point to was the same blurry photo from a parking lot in Miami that got reposted everywhere. So my unpopular take is that the bird thing was mostly internet folklore riding on a real lizard story, and the people pushing it hardest had never actually stepped outside. Has anyone here ever found an original source for the bird part, or is it just one of those things we all agreed to believe because it sounded cool?
