My encrypted chat app went silent for 12 hours last Tuesday

I was in the middle of a group chat about some local election stuff when the whole app just stopped sending messages. It wasn't my wifi, everything else worked. I tried restarting my phone, reinstalling the app, nothing. It came back online the next morning with zero explanation from the company. Has anyone else had a secure messaging platform just totally fail like that recently?

Twelve hours with no warning is a long time for a chat app to go dark. I'd be pretty upset if my messages just stopped sending, especially during an election talk. It feels like the company should at least post a notice on their website or social media when things go down. That kind of silence makes you wonder what's really going on with their servers.

Maybe they were doing server maintenance and forgot to tell people. Stuff breaks sometimes, it's not a big deal.

Okay but how often does "forgot to tell people" become the standard excuse? At some point it stops being an accident and starts looking like they just don't care about giving users a heads up.
