I used to think 9/11 truthers were all nuts but one detail got me

I always blew off the whole controlled demolition thing until I watched a video showing how Building 7 fell straight down at free fall speed. No office fire should make a skyscraper pancake like that. Anyone else get stuck on that one piece of evidence?

Fifty five stories, that building. I remember watching the news that day and just assuming it fell because it was damaged from the towers collapsing. But then years later someone showed me that same video, the one where it drops straight into its own footprint. That's not how a building falls when its bottom floors are on fire. A controlled demo is the only way you get that perfect pancake effect with no tipping or swaying. I still think most truther stuff is a rabbit hole you can get lost in for no reason, but that one specific thing, the free fall speed and the way it just gave up, it sticks with you. Makes you wonder what else we were just told to accept and move on from.

Oh, hold on a minute. That's a common misunderstanding about the free fall speed for Building 7. I've looked into this myself, and the actual free fall time from the building's height is about 6.5 seconds, not 8 seconds as you mentioned. But here's the thing that gets me - the north tower collapse lasted around 10 to 12 seconds, which is a lot slower because the floors had to fight each other breaking apart. Building 7 fell at something like 6.6 seconds, which is darn close to the vacuum free fall number. It's not the exact free fall that's suspicious to me, it's the fact that it fell perfectly straight down with no resistance, like someone flipped a switch. That pancake effect you mentioned is exactly what bothers me too, because normal fire damage makes buildings tip and lean and fight their way down.

Yeah but @murray.spencer, the free fall speed thing actually gets misstated a lot. The building fell at around 8 seconds, while true free fall from that height would be closer to 6.5 seconds, so it wasn't quite as clean as people claim.
