I swear the creek behind my house has gotten way louder in the last 2 years

You know that little stream that just trickles along? Mine used to be this quiet babbling sound, like background noise. Now it's this roaring mess (especially after a rain). I'm talking a serious difference. My buddy thinks it's just more runoff from new construction up the hill. But I'm looking at it and wondering if someone upstream changed the flow or diverted something on purpose. Has anyone else noticed a water feature change like this and found out it was something weird?

Check if there's a new beaver dam upstream. They pop up overnight sometimes and change the whole water flow.

Your buddy's probably right. New construction changes drainage patterns big time. Pipes and grading divert water that used to soak into the ground. That runoff has to go somewhere and your creek's the path of least resistance. Forget beaver dams. Those are rare in developed areas. More likely someone paved over a field upstream. Water that soaked into dirt now rushes straight into the creek. Check your town's building permits online. Look for any new housing or commercial projects within a half mile. That'll tell you more than guessing about random dams.
