I finally looked into the debate over sleep tracking apps selling data
My friend says they're spying on our dreams. Is there any truth to this conspiracy?

Sleep Cycle's privacy policy clearly states they track sleep stages, not dream content. I went through this with my Fitbit last year and found they share aggregated data for research. To stay safe, I disable internet access for all sleep apps before bed. You can also check app permissions and turn off the microphone if you're worried. The dream spying thing is mostly a fun story, but real data selling happens. Just be smart about what you allow!

The microphone feature in Sleep Cycle detects noises like snoring or sleep talking. Ngl, while their policy states they don't track dream content, sounds during sleep can sometimes relate to dreams. I remember reading that they use this data to improve sleep stage tracking, but it's still personal. Honestly, turning off the mic is a good call if you're worried.

Had a friend who left her sleep app mic on and it caught her sleep talking about work secrets. She freaked and now keeps her phone on airplane mode at night.
