Four bucks at the Dollar Tree got me a simple moisture meter that saved my string of pearls from rot city. I was watering on a schedule like a fool but that probe showed the bottom stayed wet for weeks. Now I only water when it hits dry on the meter and they're plumping up with new growth. That little stick is the only reason I haven't killed every succulent I own.

Dramatic much? A moisture meter saving a plant, sure. But "saved my peace lily from my own stupidity" sounds like you were trying to kill it on purpose. People act like these things are life support systems. You stick a probe in dirt and it tells you if it's wet or dry. That's not magic, that's common sense if you bother to check. I've had plants for years without one and they're fine. You just gotta pay attention.

Is your fig putting out new leaves now? My moisture meter saved my peace lily from my own stupidity. I was drowning it every week until I checked the soil. Turns out it was bone dry two inches down but wet at the bottom. Now I only water when the meter says medium. That thing has paid for itself ten times over.
