A guy on a job in Council Bluffs called my explanation of the moon landing a 'classic misdirect,' and I still think about it
Back in 2019 I was on a job site in Council Bluffs doing a simple water heater swap, and the homeowner kept me talking for an extra 45 minutes about the moon landing. He had a binder. Actual printed pages. He said the shadows in the photos proved the whole thing was shot in a studio, so I asked him one question about how a studio light could hit that far. He called my answer a 'classic misdirect' and flipped to a different page, and that move right there is what changed how I argue about this stuff. Instead of actually answering the shadow point, he just labeled me as part of the trick. Ten years back these talks were more fun because people would trade what they knew and leave it at that. Now the label does all the work before the facts even show up. So here's my real question for this board: how do you keep a debate going when the other person has a folder of comebacks ready that don't answer anything you asked?
