I thought the Saturn was junk until I played Nights into Dreams
I used to roast Sega for the Saturn's weird hardware (you know, those dual CPUs nobody could code for), but a buddy forced me to try Nights at his place last weekend. That 3D flying mechanic at 60fps was so smooth, it changed my mind about the whole system. Has anyone else gone from hater to fan on a console after one game?
To each their own" but I gotta say, Nights never did it for me. I actually think the Saturn is junk, still. That game felt like a tech demo, not a full game. You fly around for like 2 minutes and then it's over. Plus the 3D was all blocky and the camera was a mess. People act like it's this lost masterpiece, but I remember renting it back in the day and thinking "this is it?" The Saturn's library is mostly ports and fighting games nobody plays anymore. One smooth flying game doesn't fix a console that couldn't handle basic 3D like the PS1 or N64. I'll stick with hating it, sorry.
Wait, you think Nights was a tech demo? I mean, the whole point was basically a score attack game with that awesome flow state, but calling it just a tech demo feels wild to me.
