Vent: Heard a homeowner say broom finish is "lazy work"

I was at a job site last week and this guy walks up, looks at my broom finish on a driveway, and tells his wife it looks like I took the easy way out. I told him flat out, a proper broom finish takes timing and feel. You go too early and it tears, too late and it won't stick. Has anyone else had a client badmouth a standard finish like that?

That "lazy work" comment is exactly what gets under my skin. It's not brain surgery but knowing window for a good broom finish absolutely matters. You can have a guy who pours concrete all day and still mess it up if he doesn't read the surface right. Calling it lazy just shows that guy has zero clue about the actual craft. It takes experience to know when to pull that broom and get clean lines without tearing the whole thing up. Don't let some homeowner who's never held a broom in his life tell you otherwise.
