Unpopular opinion: I see guys skip the broom finish on driveways way too often.

Did a repair job last month in Cedar Rapids. The old driveway had zero texture. Slick as ice when wet. Homeowner said the last crew just bull floated and left. That extra minute with a push broom gives real grip. It stops slips, especially in rain or snow. Anyone else push for this on every flatwork job?

It's not just about grip, it's about water runoff. Those tiny grooves from a broom push rain away from the house foundation. Skipping it can lead to bigger moisture problems down the line.

Wait they just left it slick? That's crazy to me... a driveway is basically a safety thing. Skipping the broom is just asking for someone to take a bad fall. Can't believe a crew would cut that corner.

Yeah and it's not just water runoff, it's about where that water goes. If it sits flat and pools, you get freeze-thaw cycles that wreck the concrete from below. Those little broom lines break the surface tension so the water actually moves off the slab instead of seeping into every tiny crack. Skipping that step is basically baking in future repairs.
