Older finisher in Phoenix told me I was burning my mix too fast

He said I was adding water to keep it workable but that just weakens the slab. I stopped rushing the pour and started using a retarder on hot days instead. Anyone else have a trick for keeping things workable in 100 degree heat?

Ngl man, I swear adding water in the heat is a trap we all fall for at first. Had a foreman yell at me for doing the same thing on a driveway in Tucson, made me realize I was just making a weaker slab for no reason. Now I bring a wet burlap and shade my mix if it sits too long, works way better than messing with the water ratio.

You ever notice how the guys who yell about water are always the ones who've been doing this since before we were born? @the_morgan got it right with the wet burlap thing, I tried that last summer and it bought me a good ten extra minutes before the mix started cooking.
