Old timer on a job told me my floats were too wet, took me 3 days to actually get it
We were pouring a small slab behind a house in Austin last Thursday, maybe 30 yards. This 60 something guy walks over from the framing crew next door and just watches me for a bit. Then he says "you're chasing water that ain't there yet." I figured he was just bored and messing with me. But he pointed at how I was pulling the float before the bleed water even started to leave. I always thought get it early and flatten it out fast. Tried his way on the second pour that afternoon, waited like 15 extra minutes and backed off the float pressure a lot. Night and day difference on the finish. No more fine lines or drag marks. Has anyone else gotten a random correction from a guy who wasn't even on your crew and it stuck with you more than any foreman advice?
